2013 will be the 4th year of the Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project! This annual art project with an emphasis on art, community and the environment has enlivened this small fishing village, and the elementary school students and the whole community look forward to the international artists living and working there for about four weeks each Spring.
For 2013 the art project will be an invitational exhibition, and Curator Jane Ingram Allen has already invited selected artists to send in their ideas for 2013.
In 2013 we are again expecting some great art projects in Cheng Long with artists from around the world. We expect the installations will be bigger and better than ever with the invited artists announced by January 1, 2013. The theme of the invitational art project in 2013 is “On the Table: Aquaculture and the Environment.” We will select 5 or 6 international and Taiwanese artists to invite for the 2013 Cheng Long art project that will take place from April 11 to May 6, 2013. The artists will create site-specific environmental sculpture installations in the wetlands working with local community people and Cheng Long Elementary school students. The opening weekend is set for May 4 and 5, 2013, in Cheng Long village, Yunlin County, Taiwan, and the works will remain on view for one year or more. The 2013 Cheng Long art project has received funding this year from the Yunlin County government, and the 2013 art project in Cheng Long will be a preliminary activity for the Yunlin County Agricultural Expo opening in late 2013. Now we are in the process of inviting artists, and all invited proposals will be received by the end of November. The final decision will be made by January 1, 2013. We also plan to set up a Facebook fans group very soon. Please keep your eye on this blog for continuing updates about the art project.
