Announcing the Artists for 2013

We are happy to announce the 6 artists selected for the 2013 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project:

Giorgio Tessadri from Italy, now living in Belgium

Johan Sietzema from the Netherlands (荷蘭)

Kuo-Chun Chiu 邱國峻 from Taiwan (台灣)

Michael Rofka from Germany (德國)

Michele Brody from the USA (美國)

Ya-chu Kang  康雅筑 from Taiwan (台灣)

These six artists will come to live and work in Cheng Long village, Kouhu Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan, from April 11 to May 6, 2013, to create their proposed site-specific sculpture installations in Cheng Long Wetlands.  These artists will be working with children and adults in the community during a 25-day residency to create their environmental artworks that will offer different interpretations of the theme for 2013– “On the Table: Aquaculture and the Environment.”

Congratulations to all of the 2013 artists, and we look forward to welcoming them to Cheng Long Village!  There is much to plan and discuss over the coming months as we all get ready for the 2013 Cheng Long art project.

Thank you to all the artists who were invited to make proposals for 2013.   All of the proposals were wonderful, and we had so many great artists with good ideas that the decision was very difficult.  Some of the finalists may be invited later to Cheng Long for a special project at the end of 2013.  We really appreciate the time and effort that all of the artists put into making their proposals, and thank them very much for their interest in this art project.  We hope that we can consider some of these artists again for future art projects in Taiwan.

  1. … and as it happens, the one to one match sketches? I also had a fish from banbuka and Taiwanese artist. He had his own mind?

    • Thank you for your interest in the Cheng Long Wetlands 2013 environmental art project. I am not sure I understand your comment. The name of the artist and the title of the proposed artwork is underneath each photo of the sketch. One artist from Taiwan this year proposed a large fish on a table like it is ready to be eaten…Another artist from Germany this year proposed the sculpture of a milkfish (a common one raised in the fish farms around Cheng Long) and this fish sculpture is on the beach like a skeleton and big enough for people to go inside. The two fish related sculptures will be very different for the 2013 project. I will explain more about the selected works in some future posts and introduce the ideas of the artists and how they fit with the theme for 2013. Keep looking at the Blog to learn more about the 2013 artists for Cheng Long.
