Just a reminder that the deadline for the 2017 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project is January 20, 2017. This will be the 7th year of the annual outdoor sculpture project in Cheng Lung village, Yunlin County, Taiwan. This year the invited artists will come to stay and create their site specific works from April 13 – May 8. Selected artists receive a US$2000 stipend, airfare, accommodations, food and volunteer help. The theme this year is “Take Action – Live with Change” and artists will work with local school children and volunteers to create large scale outdoor sculptures with natural and recycled materials that are eco-friendly and encourage sustainability and taking action to live with climate change. We will be reviewing emailed entries and selecting the 2017 artists by Feb. 20. For more information about what to submit see the 2017 Call for Proposals on this Blog or email Curator Jane Ingram Allen at
Hope to see your entry soon!

  1. Dear Jane, I’m sorry, this year I can not apply for Cheng-Long Wetlands because I have important professional appointments during this time. Otherwise I’m glad to apply again. Best wishes Kathrin Kathrin Hubl Bildhauerin/Künstlerin St.-Burkardusstr.15 D-97714 Oerlenbach Atelier Brunnengasse 4 97714 Eltingshausen Tel.:09725/4813 0157/38504614

    • Hi Kathrin, Thank you for your message about the Cheng Long art project this year not working out with your schedule. We should keep in touch about the future, and email me again about your latest activities. Best wishes, Jane

  2. Hi! We would love to apply. I am a Spaniard living part-time in Chiayi (very close!). Together with some good friends, we run a collaborative art platform with an ongoing project related to Biodiversity ( ). We would love to connect kids and youth from Cheng Long with others in 10+ countries… Our question is: can we apply as an organisation? Would it be OK if we send 2 facilitators to the project (AS i am already in Taiwan, i may not need ticket neither lodging, but having a colleague with me means doing more things!!)

    Thanks in advance!!

    • Hi Guillermo,
Please go ahead to send me the 6 items for a full proposal. You can see the list of what to send “To Apply” at the end of the Call for Proposals. It is okay to apply as a team of 2 people and as it says there is one artist fee and one air ticket that must be shared. In your case it might be local transportation only. We can handle the food and accommodations for two people if your proposal is selected. Artists are required to stay in Cheng Long village for the whole time of the project from April 13 to May 8 and many activities happen every day. Thank you and hope to see your proposal by the deadline of January 20.

      • Thanks! Sure will do.

      • Dear Jane, we are fnalising our proposal and, as you may have heard before, it is when we are one step from summit that we question all our achievements:) What we are questioning about our proposal is that it is not exactly a sculpture installation, but a photo+mixed media installation (gigantic indeed, but not specifically a sculpture as every other past-editions creations have done). We may be a bit of the white crows there… and we would be more than happy being so!!! But, the question is: can we still apply with a proposal that is a big-scale outdoor installation, using eco-firendly materials, but that is not exactly a gigantic sculpture?

  3. Yes, we welcome your proposal! In past years we have had works that are not sculpture only….see the catalog for 2013 on the Blog! Your idea seems to fit the criteria being eco-friendly materials and a large scale outdoor installation. I am always looking for something unique and creative. Best wishes, Jane

    • We´ve applied!!! fingers crossed 🙂

  4. Hi! We would love to apply. my name is soo kim from south Korea Please let me know how to apply thanks.

    • Hi, You can see the Call for Proposals on this Blog. Just follow the instructions at the end of the Call for what to send by email before Jan. 20. Thank you, Jane

  5. Jane, what is the population for the Cheng Long Community?
Secondly, what is is the exact time of the deadline… with so many time zones I am not quite clear.

    • Hi Luba, The population of Cheng Long Village is about 500 people. The deadline for entries is January 20, and I will accept entries until it is no long January 20 in any part of the world. Thank you, Jane
