This year Jane, our curator for the Cheng Long art project, is not coming to Cheng Long for the art project that will take place from April 13 to May 8, 2017. Instead she will be available via Skype and email on her computer to talk over any problems or give advice to the artists about their artworks. Jane has been the curator of the Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project since its beginning in 2010 and enjoys coming to Cheng Long village for 25 days each year during the art project. For the first 3 years of the project Jane lived in Taiwan, and for the next 4 years she came back to Taiwan from California to help the artists create their works and advise about any issues that came up.
Chao-mei Wang, who has worked with Jane each year on the art project, will be in charge of the artists and volunteers this year and supervise all aspects of the project during the 25 days of the residency. We think that things will go great as usual, and know that this year the artists will all make wonderful artworks and enjoy the Cheng Long experience.
Jane says it is getting more difficult for her to travel for long distances, and she also feels it is time for others to take over this art project and continue it with fresh ideas. Jane will keep in touch with everyone in Cheng Long, and she will really miss seeing everyone this year. For her, coming back to Cheng Long is like coming “home”, and she will be especially sad to not see the kids this year. She hopes to come back to Cheng Long in April 2018 for sure!
